ARTIST BIO

JoJo Spook grew up on the Mornington Peninsula and has over 30 years experience within the Arts Industry, arts education and as a professional artist. JoJo specializes and is widely known throughout Australia for her versatility of skills and use of unique mediums, including, painting. welded metal fabricated sculptures, silversmithed jewellery, ceramics, carved stone and large sea themed works made from Ghostnets. JoJo studied at Monash University Caulfield/Gippsland completing a BA of Craft, BA of Fine Art, Dip Ed of Vis Arts and a Masters of Vis Art and a Certificate in Engineering. 

Exhibited widely across Australia JoJo has shown work on Channel 31, featured on Coxys Big Break, Federation Square, Heysen Sculpture Biennale, Southern Buoys Studio and was included in the Contempory Artists of Australia coffee table book. Awards span 30 years - Most recent the Balnaves Aquisitive Sculpture prize, The Southern Ocean Art Prize, South East Arts Society awards and Eye in the Sky.

In previous years JoJo taught the Visual Arts Diploma at Frankston/Dandenong and Wonthaggi Tafe. JoJo currently teaches as a specialized art Teacher at Lucindale Area School SA teaching secondary art and metal fabrication welding at year 11/12 level. JoJo has recieved various awards for her contribution to Arts education, including Carclew Minister of Arts award, Brand SA - Arts award for her contribution to community arts and ranked 13 th in Australia in the National Inspirational Education Teaching Award -NIETA. 

Residencies include Ghostnets Australia QLD - Sue Ryan funded by Country Arts SA and Silversmithing - Artist Sue Garrard and various other funded activities including the Lakelight Sculpture Festival - Jindabyne NSW and National Visual Arts Conference Australia - Canberra.

Project work includes various grant funded applications written by herslf to complete youth projects in Orroroo, Peterborough, Jamestown, MurrayTown. Ceduna and other remote communities across South Australia.

Public commissions include "All walks of Life "- Cowes Cultural Centre, Phillip Island, Bordertown SA - Recreation Centre."Make Your Mark" - Lucindale Skate park.

JoJo's current works for 2021 can be found at Karatta Wines, Robe SA, featuring welded animals and water features alongside Aerial paintings depicted from a recent trip to the outback in a small plane. JoJo currently resides in Robe South Australia.
