Born Sydney, 1936. Part-time art studies at North Sydney Technical College, 1952. East Sydney Technical College 1953–57. Influential teachers were Alfred Cook and Douglas Dundas. Appointed full time teacher of Art NSW Department of Technical Education 1962. Retired as senior head teacher 1989 to paint full-time.
President Australian Watercolour Institute 1964 - 1972 and 2006 - 2009.
Elected Member 1961. Life Member, 1989.
Member Royal Art Society of NSW, 1958, Fellow 1964
Foundation Member City of Ryde Art Society, 1959. President, 1962–69.
Life Member, 1968.
Awarded over 250 art prizes and numerous commendations including:
- Mercedes Benz prize for watercolours, 1981 and 1988
- Rothmans Foundation Awards from 1987–1991
- The Grenfell Henry Lawson statuette for art in 1990 and 1994
- Open awards at Currabubula in 1993 and 1994
- Watercolour Prizes Bright (VIC) 1998 and 2003
- Open Award Kiama 2008, 2010
- Open Award Central Coast Festival of the Arts 2008
- Watercolour Prize Central Coast Festival 2009
- The Thora Ungar Memorial Award 2009
- Watercolour Prize and Margaret Fesq Memorial Prize Royal Easter Show 2013
- International Award Winner Inaugural Shanghai Zhujiajiao Watercolour Biennal Exhibition 2010
- Invited to hold first solo International Watercolour Masters Exhibition in Shanghai Sept / Oct 2011
Awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2006 (Australia Day) -
'For service to art as a painter and educator and to professional organisations including the Australian Watercolour Institute'.
