ARTIST NOTES: "Tenderness. Tribute to Degas" is the artwork that was born from my admiration by the art of dance and classical ballet in particular and paintings by French impressionists as Degas, Gauguin, and Matisse which had a great influence on my art. In this work I intended to convey emotion and meaning rather than reality, it's about connection, understanding, empathy and of course the beauty and elegance of ballerinas. We admire the easiness of movement and tenderness of a performing ballerina, not ever thinking about her locked in uncomfortable pointe shoes and costumes, as we admire a bird in a cage. Golden cage is a symbol which represent all hard training, self-devotion and self-sacrifice for art of dance. In the old days the life of ballerinas was even harder and a copy of the Degas' painting in the background is a reference to the fact that the art of ballet originated more than 400 years ago and since then till modern days has inspired artists and amazed the audience. I sketched and painted ballerinas many times, especially in those days when I was waiting for my daughter during her lessons at a dance school, observing dance and choreography students. There is a lots of meaning and symbolism applied in the painting I don't want to describe to allow a viewer to interpreter and feel in their own way.

ARTIST BIO

Tatiana was born in Russia. She began her artistic journey at the early age of 11.
In 1991 she graduated from the State Art College(Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours)) in Dushanbe, Former USSR.
In 2010 Tatiana immigrated to Australia where she continues to explore her artistic abilities.
She works in a variety of mediums such as acrylic, oil, watercolour or pastel, however oil is a preferable choice.
Tatiana paints in a contemporary realism style combining abstraction with figuration and stylization. She developed her own technique where images arise from an abstract background combining roughness and serenity. Regarding themes and her colour palette, she has no limitation, except for avoiding dramatism in her creations. Sometimes our life is filled with unpleasant moments and she believes that her paintings could bring positiveness and inspiration for others. Emotions and feelings are the main motives that drive her creativity and she tries to convey them on her paintings. Her paintings might look sensitive, lyrical or impressionistic and dynamic. Tatiana believes that whatever subject the artists create, it is always a self-portrait of their spirit.
